The Church of Maria del Rosario (Contrada Radicosa)

The Radicosa district is located about 700 meters above sea level and 7 km from the historic center of the town.

It is easily reachable in 15 minutes by car and offers a breathtaking view through the gorges that furrow the mountain area in which it is set.

Among the main resources of the hamlet there is pastoralism with the breeding of cattle, sheep and goats with the relative production of meats and cheeses.

In the center of the district stands the small rural church dedicated to the Madonna del Rosario. It is a small building with a single nave built in 1880 by the locals themselves and has a cross vault inside, interrupted by the arch of the apse.

On the occasion of the Great Jubilee of 2000, thanks to the patronage of Giacomo Forte, an Italian American originally from the Contrada Radicosa and resident in America since the first half of the 1900s, the church was enriched with frescoes by the Florentine master Silvestro Pistolesi. These are the only works by the Master in southern Lazio after those made in the Basilica of the Monastery of Montecassino.

The pictorial work concerns the arch and the apse of the church: the part on the arch depicts the Prophet Isaiah in the act of predicting the birth of the Messiah, while that of the apse represents The Nativity.
